Open Access Advocacy Meeting at Karatina University
The second KLISC/EIFL Open Access Advocacy Meeting was held at Karatina University on 18th May, 2017. This is part of a series of meetings aimed at sensitizing the university management on Open Access Policy formulation and implementation. Most of the universities in Kenya have established institutional repositories but lack policies in place. It is hoped that the meetings will result into more universities having Open Access Policies.
The meeting was attended by university top level managers led by Prof. Linus M. Gitonga who is the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Planning, Finance & Administration). In his remarks, the Deputy Vice Chancellor thanked the Library department for bringing more people on board to advocate for Open Access. The DVC said that the issue of who has access to information makes a lot of difference.
The meeting facilitators were Prof. Mary Abukutsa from Jomo Kenyatta University and Rosemary Otando from University of Nairobi.
Karatina University showed its commitment in embracing Open Access initiative. KLISC/EIFL Open Access Advocacy Committee is grateful to the university management for their overwhelming support. Special thanks to the Librarian Ms. Penninah Musangi and her team who worked tirelessly to ensure the day was a success.
